On Tuesday, Year 1 travelled to St Mary’s Lighthouse to support our Summer topic of ‘the seaside’ and met up with our guide for the day, Captain Adam. He took us right to the top of the lighthouse (there were 137 steps) and told us what life was like for a lighthouse keeper. He explained to us how the lamp would work and told us that each lighthouse has it’s own light sequence so ships know where they are.We went rockpooling in the afternoon and created our own rockpools in our buckets. We learnt about different types of crabs and sea creatures. We caught lots of crabs, one of which only had 1 nipper and 1 eye…. aaah!!
We ended our day with a spot of sand art. Mrs Caygill’s group won the competition as they used all the materials they could find on the beach to complete their sculpture… seaweed, driftwood, pebbles, shells, feathers, rope… very creative indeed!
