During Reading Week Year 5 chose to focus on reading a range of exciting ancient Greek myths to link to our humanities topic.

 We read:

  • Theseus and the Minotaur
  • Jason and the Golden Fleece
  • The Wooden Horse of Troy
  • Icarus – The Boy Who Reached Too High
  • King Minos and a Touch of Gold
  • Odysseus and the Cyclops
  • Perseus and the Gorgon

… to name but as few!

We then recreated the famous clay pots made by the Greeks to tell a story.

We divided the tale of Jason and the Golden Fleece into eight main events and each child depicted their part of the story onto a vase in the style of the ancient Greeks. We painted the vase first and then designed our image to try to capture that particular point in the story. We also decorated our vases with geometric patterns around the base and the handles as the Greeks used to do.

We are proud to have some of our work displayed in the hall for everyone to see…
