We had a very important visit from Tyne and Wear Fire Service on Monday.  Firefighter Gary came into our class to talk to us about fire safety.  He talked about his job and even let us try on some of the protective clothing the firefighters wear to keep them safe!!

He told us some important safety rules:

1.  Never to play with or touch matches or lighters.

2.  Never play near the cooker.

3.  Never play near the ironing board.

4.  Check our smoke alarms often.

We had special homework to do that night.  We had to ask our parents to press the test button on our smoke alarms at home to make sure they still worked.

If we didn’t have a smoke alarm, Firefighter Gary said we could telephone Tyne and Wear Fire Service and they would come to our homes and supply and fit a smoke alarm for free!!!!

We learnt an important rule to follow if there was a fire at home or in school:

GET OUT

STAY OUT

GET THE FIRE BRIGADE OUT!!!

At the end of our training session we were awarded a Junior Fire Safety Officer certificate!
