Today we investigated static electricity as part of our National Science Week Challenges. We have had great fun creating static electricity with balloons and plastic tubes then using the force to move things around ‘as if by magic’. We discovered that some of us had lots of static in our bodies which explains why these people are often getting static shocks when they switch on the lights or touch the door knob. Take a look at some photos from our busy but fun afternoon.

Our first challenge was to find a way to move a polystyrene cup

across the table without touching it!

We found a clever way to create static electricity!

A human ‘electrical circuit!’

These children carried static attraction for the longest time.
