We have had a busy day today in Year 5. We took a step back in time over 70 years to war time Britain. We were all dressed for the occasion as evacuees and land girls or in Miss Robson’s case – a teacher. We set to work immediately. We wrote letters home to our families in blitzed cities. We cooked rationed recipes for an eggless chocolate sponge cake and trench stew- we really enjoyed eating them! In the afternoon, we decorated some homemade biscuits so they looked like poppies. We also designed propaganda posters to help to support the war effort. Finally, we heard the air siren. We used Morrisons shelters in the classrooms and escaped outside to our Anderson shelter (the bike shed) in order to protect ourselves.
Thank you very much for everyone’s help and support to make this day a success.
