Year 1 have had a fantastic day out at St Mary’s lighthouse today in the beautiful weather!
We started the morning with a big problem! When we arrived at the lighthouse car park, the lighthouse was surrounded by water. Luckily, we watched and waited patiently, (while creating some fantastic sand art) and we saw the causeway clear as the tide went out. We were amazed!
Then we set ourselves a challenge….. Can we climb all the way to the top of the lighthouse? YES!!! We made our way up all 137 stairs and looked out at the fantastic views while learning all about the upkeep of the lighthouse.
Next, we had a picnic lunch before taking part in the lighthouse keeper workshop. Some of the children were given costumes and we learned all about the different jobs within the lighthouse.
We saved the best for last, as we spent the afternoon rock pooling. We found so many different sea creatures and captured them in our buckets to take a closer look. Some children were very brave and held crabs! Before leaving, we carefully placed the creatures back where we found them.
We had a fantastic day and the children were a credit to Clover Hill. Well done Year 1 !
