Year 5 travelled back in time to the 1940s (a time when Britain was blighted by the war) and had a taste of what life was like for parents and children.
The day started off with a special assembly for our families filled with facts about WWII, drama and of course a good old sing song!!
We then got into character and wrote diary entries imagining what it was like to be evacuated to the country. We had to describe our thoughts and emotions as we described the process of evacuation starting with when we first found out about leaving our parents right through to living with our host family.
In the afternoon we did turned our old socks into sock monkeys… there was no spare cash for luxuries in the 1940s so people had to ‘Make Do and Mend’ by reusing old clothes and turning them into something new. We will be taking our monkeys with us on Friday when we are ‘evacuated’ for the day to Eden Camp!!
