Lucy in Year 5 would love your help. She is collecting food and toiletries to deliver to Newcastle Foodbank who help families and people who are desperately in need.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.
Foodbanks partner with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and police to identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher.
At this time of year we are all so busy with our own festive preparations it is so easy to forget that Christmas for some people had a time of hardship and struggle.
If you can spare even just one item from your food or toiletry cupboard this could make a huge difference to someone. Every little item adds up and can help make some one’s life that little bit better.
You can bring your item to Year 5 and Lucy will add it to her ever growing donation box.
What a thoughtful thing to do – we are so proud that Lucy has taken this upon herself to do.
