The School Day

The school day for pupils is slightly different for pupils in Key Stage 1 & 2.

Key Stage 1

Morning session               8:55 am to 12 noon

Afternoon session            1:00 pm to 3:15 pm

Key Stage 2

Morning session               8:55am to 12:15 pm

Afternoon session            1:15pm to 3:15 pm

All children have a 15-minute morning break and KS1 children have a 10-minute break in the afternoon. KS2 children can be rewarded with a ‘Reward Playtime’ on a Friday afternoon.

Punctuality is a crucial start to a school day as a late arrival into school causes disruption to the child’s learning and to that of the other pupils in the class. It is paramount therefore that all pupils arrive at school on time.

  • The school gates open at 8:50 and the school bell rings at 8.55am – all parents and pupils access school through this route. gates are closed at 9.05am and registers close at 9.10am.
  • A child arriving after 9.10am but before 9.30am will need to be accompanied by a parent or carer to the school office. The child’s name/class will then be logged in a late book along with the reason for their lateness and the time of their arrival.  An ‘L’ (late) code is then used on the child’s registration records. Where children arrive after 9.30am, their registration record is marked as ‘U‘, which equates to an unauthorised absence for that session. This will, of course, affect the child’s overall attendance rate.

If your child is absent from school a letter must be provided on their return explaining the reason for their absence.

At the end of the school day the main school gate is opened at 3.00pm. Parents congregate on the playground and wait for the children to be dismissed from their classrooms (Year 5 and Year 6 from the KS2 cloakroom)

SCHOOL LUNCHES – School lunches are cooked fresh on the school premises.  A choice of a cooked meal or a filled baked potato is offered and a vegetarian option is always available.  Most children stay for a school lunch while others bring a packed lunch.  Very few children go home for lunch.

The School Office needs to know on a Monday which days your child is to stay for lunch. Payment for school meals is available via our online system Agora.
